Staff bowling returned to the MU Games Area in fall quarter and will be back in winter quarter, along with two new league offerings: staff: pool and video gaming.
The fall quarter bowling leagues filled in three days — 45 people on three-person teams that competed weekly in one of two midday time slots. “Quite a few people wanted to sign up after the short deadline had passed,” said Ferguson Mitchell, coordinator of the Games Area in the Memorial Union’s basement.
So, for winter quarter he is adding four time slots for a total of six, to accommodate 135 people. The time slots are 11 a.m.-noon and noon-1 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The season runs nine weeks, and the fee is $35, including shoes.
In talking with other staff members, he discerned interest in pool and video gaming, too, so he plans a trial league for each: 9-Ball Pool (individual), noon-1 p.m. Tuesdays; and 3x3 Video Gaming, “League of Legends,” noon-1 p.m. Wednesdays.
The pool and video gaming seasons are likely to be shorter than bowling’s nine weeks, Mitchell said, adding that he expects the fees to be $25 for pool and $20 respectively.
For bowling and video gaming, people can sign up as teams or as individuals to be assigned to teams. , bowling, pool and video gaming. The deadline is Sunday, Jan. 6. “We will reach out to confirm your participation and with more details as the quarter gets closer,” the form states.
