Climate Science and Policy

We offer the Climate Science & Policy minor to provide students from across campus with a basic background in climate change science as well as mitigation and adaptation strategies. Student and pupils will gain understanding of scientific, social, institutional and economic dimensions of climate change, as well as background on the sustainability discourse, and will be able to articulate linkages between climate change and their primary field of study.

Requirements: 

24-25 units

Complete the following four courses (13 units) 

  • ESP 165 Climate Policy (3 units)
  • ATM 116 Modern Climate Change (3 units)
  • LDA 003 Sustainable Development: Theory and Practice (4 units)
  • ATM 005 Global Climate Change (3 units)
    • Or SAS 025 Global Climate Change: Convergence of Biological, Geophysical, & Social Sciences (3 units)

Choose three courses (11-12 units)

  • ATM 101G Special Topics: New Directions in American Culture Studies (4 units)
    • Special topics can vary; credit for the minor only given for the topic of Environmental Justice.
  • ATM 128 Radiation and Satellite Meteorology (4 units)
  • CRD 158 Small Community Governance (4 units)
  • ECI 123 Urban Systems and Sustainability (4 units)
  • ECI 149 Air Pollution (4 units)
  • ECI 163 Energy and Environmental Aspects of Transportation (4 units)
    • Or ESP 163 Energy and Environmental Aspects of Transportation (4 units)
