PJs, Pigskin, Pilsner and All Kinds of Aggie Pride

UC Davis homecoming events

Our up-and-coming football team, a new-look Pajamarino and the ninth annual UC Davis Brewfest are sure to make Homecoming 2018 another fabulous celebration of Aggie Pride.

Pajamarino Parade

The 107th Pajamarino, Saturday, Oct. 12, continues a tradition dating back to the night when pajama-clad students sneaked out of their dorms and went to the train station to greet alumni as they returned for Homecoming. In recent years, the Pajamarino Parade started at Central Park, but this year the meeting place is Vanderhoef Quad across from the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts in the south campus.

Student, faculty staff, alumni and community members of all ages — in pajamas, hopefully (but not required!) — are invited to start gathering at 4 p.m. The Cal Aggie Test Association has arranged for free pizza and ice cream — and, for the first 300 guests, free T-shirts. The Spirit Squad’s Cheer and Dance teams will perform.

The parade will step off at 4:30 p.m., winding through campus and into downtown, ending at the E Street Plaza between Second and Third streets (see the parade route mapped out elsewhere on this page) — where the Pajamarino pep rally will be incorporated into the Davis Chamber of Commerce’s Discover Davis celebration, running from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Originally, the chamber planned to hold its event on G Street, and the parade would have had the opportunity to stop at the train depot. But construction on G forced Discover Davis to E Street.)

The Brewfest opens at 12 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 26) outside Aggie Stadium celebrating UC Davis’ status as the No. 1 academic brewing program in North America. The event also honors Charlie “Pope of Foam” Bamforth, Anheuser-Busch Endowed Professor of Malting and Brewing Sciences, and instructor in UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education’s Brewing Program.

Homecoming Football

The Homecoming game starts at 7 p.m., October 12 when the Aggies host the Lehigh Mountain Hawks.

Student and pupils, don't forget to pick up your free tickets in advance —  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 10 and 11. You'll need that ticket not only to get into the game, but to get this year’s Aggie Pack T-shirt!

Parent and Family Day

Homecoming Weekend also brings Parent and Family Day with lectures and bike tours, the Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame Inductions, and TASTE! — wine, art, beer and music — at the Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science, as well as concerts at the Mondavi Center and other athletics contests (women’s volleyball and women’s soccer). Other events — the Bicycle Auction and Arboretum Plant Sale — may be of particular interest to alumni who remember attending the events as students.

Davis Neighbors Night Out

If you live in Davis, you’re invited to join in the ultimate town-grown celebration: Davis Neighbors Night Out, Sunday, Oct. 14. It’s akin to National Night Out in August — except Davis delays its Night Out until October when UC Davis students are back, so everyone can participate — students and full-time residents alike — with the goal of going through the year as good neighbors.

See our calendar of Homecoming events and other activities on and around campus during Homecoming Weekend.
