What made you choose UC Davis?
UC Davis is the No. 1 university in the world in the field of agricultural sciences, and my work in irrigation and agricultural water management made UC Davis a perfect fit for me. Also, I’ll have an opportunity here to build a research and teaching program that will have a positive impact on water use in agriculture, not only in California but nationally and internationally.
What inspires you?
The desire to develop practical solutions that help farmers optimize their water use while remaining profitable in their operations and good stewards of the environment.
What research are you currently working on? What makes it unique?
My research focus is precision irrigation management. This is a new approach to irrigation management that takes a systems approach to water management from crop water allocation optimization, efficient water application (micro-irrigation, etc.) and feedback-based irrigation scheduling (based on plant and soil water status monitoring), to optimization of water productivity, nutrient use efficiency, and profitability while ensuring minimal environmental impact.
If you could impart one piece of advice to our undergraduates seeking a course of study/career path, what would it be?
It should be one that will positively and practically impact humankind and the environment.
When not in the classroom or conducting research, what do you like to do?
Spend time with my family and church life.
Have you found your favorite spot on campus yet?
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
To not be limited by time or space.
