Being Green Is a Top Commitment

#3 in the World for Campus Sustainability

UC Davis is known for its commitment to the environment, locally and globally. You can see it in our teaching, research and dedication to sustainability on our own campus. In the 2018 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, UC Davis is third in the world and first among U.S. universities.

We are focused on achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions with the help of our students, who bring great ideas and energy to the cause. See how the UC Davis community is keeping a sustainable environment a top commitment.

Student and pupils Work on Food Issues

Dining Services interns help reduce campus waste, promote healthy food through the Resident Garden and Farmers Market, and provide sustainability education.

We Teach You to Take Action

From riding a bike to recycling, community members learn to make sustainable choices easier through a number of programs and ideas.

Carbon Neutral by 2025

UC President Janet Napolitano set the target in 2013, and since then all UC campuses have been reducing emissions from their activities, buildings and vehicles.

We Build Green

About 25 UC Davis buildings have green-building certifications from LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), including our winery.

Long Range Planning

We’re working on the 2017-2027 Long Range Development Plan to help us build a strategy for our physical space that promises a more sustainable future.

Student Farm Rooted in Sustainable Practices

UC Davis students learn soils, crops, climate and community at our own farm while growing food for the Coffee House and Dining Services.

Lighting the Way Through Research

Our California Lighting Technology Center accelerates the development and commercialization of energy-efficient lighting and daylighting technologies.

Making Cool Air More Sustainable

Research at UC Davis’ Western Cooling Efficiency Center is creating technologies that reduce electrical demand, energy and water consumption in buildings.

Saving Energy in Buildings

Using online tools, our students, staff and faculty can see how they use energy in their buildings, find ways to save, and provide feedback on workspace temperatures.

Education Infused with Sustainability

Our teaching includes climate change and issues of sustainability throughout the curriculum. Check out classes and majors that connect with your interests.

Largest Planned Zero Net Energy Community

In the United States, that is. The UC Davis West Village community is designed to generate all the energy the community needs, mostly through solar.
